Resort Wear

I'm exploring the shops and beaches near the Great Lakes area for this weak, so here's a vacation look. I was with my parents shopping in a cute little town where shops are right on the docks. You can watch the boats comes in and buy jewelry in teeny tiny shops the size of a closet. We were walking down the street, all going in different directions, when my dad came up to me and said that I should check out one of the stores, because they had "cute things" and the "prices weren't that bad".

Which to me, sounded like "Pick out a dress. I'm buying."

Yes, I am wearing a swimsuit under my dress. Yay vacation!

This was an easy hairstyle I did by braiding a section of hair and using it as a head band. It's held with Bobbi pins on the other side of my head. I wish I had a big red flower to clip over the pins, but it still turned out pretty nicely. I used Paul Mitchell Sea Salt Spray to give it a beach-y look. This also helps the braid stay in.

I bought the jewelry in a small shop in Leeland. Several tourist shops try to charge horrible prices, but if you look in the right spot, you can find the stuff that wont break the bank. The two bracelets and the necklace were about $15 all together.

I'm leaving Traverse City now, but I've got a surprise for tomorrow's post. Something a little... different. See you here. :)

Classic Summer

Ah! Summer is finally here. Shorts, swimsuits and sandals....be still my heart! Here's today's look...

In this shot, I'm wearing what may just be the best invention in make up products (but feel free to argue in the comments below). I have discovered the tinted lip shimmer from Burt's Beeswax. It's a great product. This outfit and my plans were too casual for a lipstick, so I used this instead. The shade is "Merlot". It tastes minty and makes your lips feel cool. So it's perfect for summer... cool and simple. And added benefit is it doesn't smear off in an unsightly way like lipstick will (leaving a strange lip-liner look) when you eat. Considering lunch with friends was on the agenda, this worked out nicely. I will have to buy more shades of this.

This has become my new "cheat" for getting ready in the mornings. In order to have an extra go-round with the snooze button, I skipped drying my hair and went for this quick and easy style:

1. Brush your hair over to one side, leaving a part somewhere around the outside corner of your eye.
2. Then worked your fingers through the hair to break up the wet strands. Then french braid down the side. I pulled some of my bangs into the braid to reduce some of their bulk. Remember to start an inch or two from your hairline, so you can pull hair from both sides of the braid.
3. Tie off the nape of your neck with a neutral colored hair band.
4. Tease the hair in the pony tail and twist it into a messy bun. Add bobby pins, and spray the whole thing down with hairspray. (I used Sunsilk Hold Me Forever, Serious Hold) And you're done!

So, what do you consider the best makeup invention of all time? Comment below!
